The Eigenstate Thermalisation Hypothesis (ETH) is a conjecture in theoretical physics that provides a microscopic explanation for how isolated quantum systems can reach thermal equilibrium. It was proposed by Mark Srednicki in 1994 and has since become a cornerstone of the understanding of thermalisation in many-body quantum systems.
